Our Ooni Fyra Pizza Oven Lets Us Cook Perfect Pizzas in One Minute Anywhere We Want, from the Backyard to the Campsite

Yes, you read the headline correctly: it takes all of one minute to cook a sensationally good pizza in an Ooni pizza oven. You pop the uncooked pizza in there, let it cook for exactly 30 seconds, pull it out, spin it around and pop it back in, then you cook it for 30 more seconds. And then you pull out a pizza that will be the best you have ever made, even the first time you ever use your Ooni.

Or at least that was our experience with the Ooni Fyra Pizza Oven

The first pizza we cooked in this thing was the best we had ever made at home, and we have been making pizzas at home for a decade and a half.

Why are these little ovens so good? It’s the heat, pure and simple. Our Ooni Fyra uses wood pellets – the same as you burn in a traditional pellet smoker – and can, in about 10 to 15 minutes, reach a staggering 950º Fahrenheit. That amazing heat is why the pizzas cook so fast, but more to the point it’s why they taste so good, genuinely rivaling the finest pizza you’d get at a fine pizza restaurant. And because the Fyra uses pellets, we can fire it up anywhere, from the yard to the campsite to the tailgate party. Not… not that we do much tailgating, but we could. Or you could, anyway.

If you prefer the ease of gas, there’s an Ooni oven that can use propane too, but based on flavor, portability, and ease of use, I can’t recommend the pellet-fueled Fyra enough. (Though I’m sure the charcoal-fueled and also thus quite portable Karu Oven from Ooni is great, too.) We used to enjoy a homemade pizza maybe once, sometimes twice a month; now it’s a weekly treat and it’s the first thing we cook up whenever we have guests. And yes, partly that’s because it’s very easy to make an impressive meal in an Ooni, but it’s also true because the oven is so efficient, using it to cook dinner means less time worrying about the meal and more time spent visiting. Visiting, and eating awesome pizza.
